How It Was Done
1
Remove the old fence
Damaged panels, loose posts and the old gate taken out completely.
2
Set new posts in concrete
New posts positioned and set at the correct depth, left to cure before panels go on.
3
Hang panels and gate
Timber panels and a matching gate fitted, checked for level across the whole run.
4
Final check and tidy
Every post and panel checked, old fencing removed from site.
The Project
The Brief
The existing fence and gate were on their way out, panels facing down after winter storms, posts loose in the ground, and a gate that no longer closed properly. The client needed the boundary secure again before the next bad storm, not another temporary patch.
The Approach
We dug out the old posts completely rather than reusing failing footings, set new posts in concrete at the correct depth for the panel height, and hung new timber panels and a matching gate. Every post was checked for level before the panels went on, so the whole run reads straight, not just each panel individually.
The Result
A boundary that’s actually secure again, panels upright and square, gate swinging properly, and posts that won’t work loose after the next storm season.
Rathfarnham sits at the foot of the Dublin mountains, which means gardens here take more wind than most of the flatter suburbs further into the city, especially on more exposed or elevated plots. Fencing that’s marginal on posts or skips the concrete tends to fail here faster than it would in a more sheltered garden, which is exactly what had happened on this job.
