Why sealing jobs go wrong, and surfaces look worse after
The most common sealing mistake is applying sealer to a surface that hasn't been properly prepared. Sealer traps what's underneath, moss spores, dirt, efflorescence. Within a season the surface looks patchy, the trapped moisture causes the sealer to bubble or peel, and you're worse off than before you started.
The second mistake is using the wrong product. There are dozens of paving sealers on the market and the correct one depends on the material. Apply the wrong sealer and you get peeling, or a surface that darkens unevenly and can't be corrected without stripping.
How we clean and seal paving properly
The preparation is the job. Every surface is pressure washed thoroughly at the right pressure for the material, too high on soft sandstone damages the surface. Stubborn algae and lichen are treated with a biocide and allowed to dwell. Joints are inspected and re-pointed where necessary before any sealer goes on.
The surface is allowed to dry completely, at least 24 to 48 hours. Sealer applied to damp stone won't bond properly and will fail early. We use sealer products specified for the exact material and finish, wet look, natural look, or anti-slip, applied in the correct number of coats.
