The problem with cheap patio installations
Most of the patios we get called to fix were laid on sand and a prayer. A thin MOT base, no proper compaction, drainage falling toward the house. They look fine the first summer. By the second winter the edges are sinking, water pools in the middle after rain, and individual slabs are lifting where the ground has moved underneath.
A patio laid incorrectly isn't a minor inconvenience, it's a trip hazard, a damp risk for the house, and eventually an expensive dig-out and relay. The cost of doing it right once is always less than doing it twice.
How we lay patios properly
Every patio starts with a proper excavation, down to a firm base, not just scraping the lawn off. A compacted hardcore sub-base followed by a sharp sand or concrete bed depending on the material and loading. Falls are calculated from the start, graded away from the house or toward a drainage channel. Slab joints are pointed with a weatherproof compound that won't wash out in the first winter.
Daniel is on site for every patio installation. Not passing the work to a labourer, overseeing the whole job from excavation to final pointing, because that's how you get a patio that's still level and watertight in ten years.
